
Pianist Maciej Granat
IBLA Foundation Winner Pianist Maciej Granat has just returned from the IBLA Grand Prize Winners Tour. It included his New York Carnegie Weill Hall performance in addition to performing for New York University, Radford University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Born January 3rd, 1985, He started to play the piano at the age of four. From 1992 to 2000 he was a pupil in Jan Kiepura Music School in Sosnowiec in MA Bozena Lanowska’s class. From 2000 to 2004 he was a student of Mieczyslaw Karlowicz Music High School in Katowice, where he studied in Prof. Czeslaw Stanczyk’s class. Currently, he is a student of Karol Szymanowski Music Academy in Katowice in Prof. Joanna Domanska’s class.
He participated in many national and international competitions. In 1993 he was a laureate of Janina Garscia National Competition in Stalowa Wola. In 1997 he won 2nd prize in International Music Competition in Copenhagen in Denmark. In 2005 he was a finalist of 6th Competition of 20th and 21st Century Music for Young Musicians in Poland. In 2006 he won the IBLA Foundation Bartok-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev Competition in Ragusa in Italy and gained the Kabalevsky Award.
He participated also in many piano masterclasses in Poland: in Warsaw, Bystrzyca Klodzka, Rycerka Gorna and in Katowice.
He gave many concerts in Silesia region, as well as in Szczecin, Ostrava and Warsaw during the international Mozart Plus Festival. In October 2006 he organized two concerts together with the multiwinning piano duo Cara Hesse and Laura Pauna from South Africa. In April 2007 he went on a concert tour to the USA. His performances received very good reviews from critics and audience.
He has been composing for several years. Currently his collection of works includes pieces written for piano solo, chamber ensambles and orchestra. He organized several concerts with his compositions in Mieczyslaw Karlowicz Music School in Katowice. His piece – Etude op. 1 no 3 “Banieczki” (‘Bubbles’) – was performed during the Silesian Tribune of Composers in 2004. Three songs for baritone voice and string quartet after Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz poems were performed during the Musical Arcades Festival in 2005. His work “Pogoda ducha” (‘Cheerfulness’) for saxophone, piano and string quartet was commissioned by ‘Gama’ artistic agency.
