Elin Kolev of Germany, the young violin player, who was awarded the IBLA Foundation Pablo de Sarasate Award and Best Young Talent, participated in the IBLA Foundation Winners Tour in the United States in April and May of 2009, which included a performance at Carnegie Hall.
Elin Kolev was born in Zwickau, Germany, and shares the same birthplace as composer Robert Schumann. He began to study the violin at age 5 at the “Robert Schumann Konservatorium" in Zwickau. At the young age of 10, Elin was granted an exception to enroll in the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" as an underage student and study the violin in Prof. Carolin Widmann’sclass. Elin also took master classes with Dr. Friedemann Eichhorn and professors Thomas Brandis and Igor Ozim.
Elin was only 8 when he had his soloist debut with the Vogtland Philharmonic Orchestra Greiz/Reichenbach during their “Classics under the Stars” program, dazzling more than 5,000 spectators who gathered in the main town square of his Zwickau hometown.
He was the soloist of choice of many renowned conductors in Germany, among them Stefan Fraas, Christoph Sandmann, Irgi Malat, Pavel Balew, and Daniel Lipton.
Elin won the first prize at competitions in Germany, Austria, and Italy. His achievements attracted the attention of many TV and radio stations in Germany such as ZDF, ARD, RTL, MDR, DW and PRO 7. Elin has often been a guest in their programs featuring the young violinist and his passion – music.
Elin’s current sponsors are the Sächsischen Mozart - Gesellschaft e.V. and the Albert Eckstein Foundation.
Elin plays on a violin of the NewStrad family by luthier Dominik Hufnagl.
